My name is Wyatt Abell. My parents are Dwight and Rhonda Abell, who reside at the home I grew up in, on a cattle ranch in northwest Kansas. We lived outside of a small town called Oakley, population approx. 2000. I have two older sisters and one younger brother; I also have two brothers-in-law, a sister-in-law, and seven nieces and nephews.
After graduating from high school in Oakley, I moved to Wichita for college in the fall of 2019 and came to reformed convictions after my first semester. In 2021, I developed a desire to minister the Lord’s word to His people. Since then, I have sought to grow in pastoral readiness through personal study, the instruction and mentorship of pastors, local church life, and teaching/preaching opportunities. I received a B.S. in Industrial Engineering from Wichita State University in 2023 and was heavily involved in the Navigators campus ministry during my time there.
I grew up in a Christian home, and my family and I attended a non-denominational, evangelical Christian church (Oakley Christian Church). I was taught the Bible from a young age, was given a love for Christ, and my family always had a strong belief in the sovereignty of God over all things. I was not made familiar with the Doctrines of Grace while I was young, but I was made familiar with the Bible, and that made it easy for me to accept the Doctrines of Grace when I came across them in college. My love for Christ only grew as I understood more of what He has done for me. How true it is, that, “We love, because He first loved us” (1 John 4:19).
The congregation of First Baptist Church of Maize, Kansas has had a huge impact on me, and so has Kenwood Baptist Church in Louisville, Kentucky, where I completed a pastoral internship while I took a year of classes at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. After that, I served in an interim pastoral role at a church in northwest Kansas (First Christian Church of Phillipsburg, where my grandfather had been the previous pastor; after he retired, I filled the pulpit and helped the church through the transition) for five and a half months. During that interim pastorate I had the opportunity to preach through 1 John. I then arrived at RPTS in December of 2025, and plan to graduate in the spring of 2028. I deeply admire the reformational emphases of RPTS, and their balance in pursuing pastoral piety and competence alongside academic rigor.
My favorite book of the Bible is Hebrews, my favorite non-inspired author is John Owen, and my favorite confession is the First London Baptist Confession of Faith of 1644 (expanded/updated in 1646). If you scroll down on this page, you’ll find some of my papers and sermons that I’ve made available. Thank you for visiting!
